Round 1 of Yerevan Open took place today at Chess Academy of Armenia. Favorites of the tournament – Melkumyan Hrant, Onischuk Vladimir, Petrosian Tigran L., Hovhannisyan Robert, Andriasian Zaven, Pashikian Arman, Rozum Ivan, Aleksandrov Aleksej, Minasian Artashes, Ter-Sahakyan Samvel, Gabuzyan Hovhannes and Martirosyan Haik M. started the tournament with victories. First round was victorious for three members of Armenian women national team – Lilit Mkrtchian, Maria Kursova and Maria Gevorgyan. Several surprises also happened; Manuel Petrosyan lost his game to Edvard Sayadyan, young Armenian player Armen Barseghyan managed to make a draw against GM Chanda Sandipan of India. A draw was agreed in the game between Mariam Avetisyan and IM Alexander Moskalenko.
The second round of the Tournament will be played tomorrow, on September 20th, at 3 pm local time. 12 games will be broadcast online on our website.
