Yerevan Open international chess tournament came to an end. The solemn closing ceremony of the tournament was held yesterday at Chess Academy of Armenia. Yerevan Mayor, who doubles as the President of Yerevan Chess Federation Taron Margaryan, the vice-president of the Armenian Chess Federation Levon Yolyan, the Executive Director of Armenian Chess Federation Hrachik Tavadyan, the Executive Director of Yerevan Chess Federation and tournament director Norayr Kalantaryan, a number of state officials and many chess fans were present at the ceremony.
9 days 150 players from 13 countries were waging for the title of the winner of 2nd edition of Yerevan Open. There were 55 titled players among the participants.
Eventually, representative of Armenia GM Karen Grigoryan became the winner of the tournament with 7.5 points out of 9. IM Amin Tabatabei of Iran came second, and IM Arman Mikaelyan was third. The winners of “Yerevan open” were awarded by Yerevan Mayor, president of Yerevan Chess Federation Taron Margaryan.
In his greeting speech Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan congratulated those present on Levon Aronyan’s victory in the World Chess Cup.
“It’s a great honour to have a chess player who upholds the honour of our country in various prestigious tournaments and in the World Cup. I would also like to congratulate the winners of Yerevan Open. We should gladly outline that this year representatives of 13 countries took part in this tournament and I believe that their number will be increasing from year to year. It obviously depends on the consistent work of Yerevan Chess Federation and we will do our best to ensure it”, said the Mayor of Yerevan.
During the ceremony vice-president of Yerevan Chess Federation Armen Gevorgyan awarded special prize winners.
The organizers had also prepared special presents for all foreign participants of the tournament.
